One of Palm Springs’ most revered dining institutions made its way to LA over the fall, settling into a sleek, ultra-modern two-story space that feels like you’re dining in the Anya Taylor Joy-led The Menu—hold the horror. The exposed ceiling lends the space a cathedral-like solemnity that’s only enhanced by the stark, black-and-white palette that extends from the hanging light fixtures to the straight-backed chairs and pod-like dining booths, with the bar’s brilliant collection of bottles adding a splash of stained glass vibrancy. Chef/owner Michael Beckman’s menu holds true to California sensibilities, with a focus on local farmers and seasonal ingredients, plus some only-in-LA additions courtesy of chef de cuisine Vinson Ching, including the Masami Ranch Dry Age Steak with sunchoke confit and crispy broccolini. The tasting menu (a plant-based option is available) gives guests a glimpse into Beckman’s technique-driven vision, but you’ll also want to add tempting a la carte items like Southern-fried Oyster Mushrooms served with herbed buttermilk sauce, as well as the Wood Fired Pizza with smoked mozzarella, parmesan, shallot and thyme confit, and San Marzano tomato sauce. You’d also do well to order some charcuterie from the roving cheese cart, which features a selection of local cheeses, house-made bread, and truffles. Original cocktails like the Kitchen Sink Martini with olive oil-washed gin, blanc vermouth, orange bitters, and seasonal pickles are certainly worthwhile, but the restaurant also boasts a sizable wine selection should you want a more formal pairing.
